I really enjoyed reading American Born Chinese. I did not realize that this particular graphic novel would be as
interesting as I have found it. I enjoyed how the story tied together at the end and it was surprising--well it was
predictable but I enjoyed reading about the themes that were in the story. It is probably the only graphic novel I found
interesting. However if Alexie's "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian" is considered a graphic novel I enjoyed
that immensely. I just thought because there were pictures accomodating the text throughout the novel.
I have been reading a lot of different books currently that deal a lot with a younger audience. I have been reading
more picture books lately because I find it easier to do with my son and he loves it! I have been reading Margaret Wise
Brown and a lot of Gertrude Chandler Warner books. I grew up on the Boxcar Children and I dusted off my personal collection
in the storage and read. The idea of living in a boxcar seemed so exciting to me. I was very into mystery stories
as child and this was a great way to go back into time and read what I loved years ago. My opinions have not altered
and I enjoyed reading books from the series #1-#14
This week I have really gotten into Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis! What an amazing book this is and
I have kept with the story. I like reading the various issues that are occuring in the story. It is about a ten
year old homeless boy who is looking for his father. He leaves his foster home after he is told that he would be returning
the next day. He manages to meet up with one of the other boys from the shelter. From that point they are on their
journey to new places. I am right in the middle of this story and they are making plans to hop on a train to vacate
the area. I did a little bit of research while I was reading this story on the author and I was intrigued. Curtis
stated that as a child there were no books about him and now he is able to provide that story through his publicated works.
His family is influences his work and I can see that now as I am reading because the setting is the area Curtis grew up.
