Dialogue

A dialogue is the conversation between characters.  It could be in a drama or a narrative and is a regular component in literature.  In A Handbook of Literature it states that dialogue serves in several ways in literature.  Here are a few ways that dialogue accentuates literature:
        1.  Dialogue helps characterize the individuality of
the speaker.  However that is dependent upon
             their background (social, ethnic, etc).
        2.  Dialogue enables literature to be
comprehendible by creating a natural flow.
        3.  Dialogue differentiates because of the mood and
tone the author is conveying and is dependent
on the characters that are partaking in the
             conversation.

FANTASY
It has been said that Hans Christian Anderson is referred to as being the "father" of fantasy because of the inclusion of fairy tales. Fantasy stories often involve magic, a quest, and a good vs. evil theme.  It opens up the reader to an alternative universe based on its own rules.  There were soo many sub-genres under fantasy that I did not know much about. For example: animal fantasy, quest, machine, toy and doll, time and comic fantasy.  Wow that is a lot to think about.  I would have to say that I enjoyed reading about certain books from this genre that would have never picked up before this.

Characterization

Characterization is the art of creating a person out of words on the page.  It builds the character up so that you able to visualize the character in your mind.   It also gives the reader hints as to what is taking place in the story and enhances the mannerisms of the character.
